A Calmbirth® story.
On 4/7/18 we welcomed our little girl Zara Sandra Campbell to our family. She was born at 3:31am and weighed 3.660kg (8p1oz) at NWPH in Burnie.
Labour was great – starting around 5pm on 3/7/18. By 7:30pm I was using CalmBirth breathing – 5 seconds in and 6 seconds out to get through. We were in Burnie by 10:15PM and from there things got very intense. I didnt really have time to think about anything, I just used vocalisation with each contraction.
Crowing and pushing were very difficult as our girl was in a terrible position – posterior and lips and chin presenting – I had some assistance getting her out after 3 long hours of pushing. We had lots of wonderful midwives and an OBGYN in the room in the end – they were all so supportive.
All in all a very positive birth experience. Although it all moved too fast for me to implement any of the techniques I learned in CalmBirth course ( all I did was used a hhheeerrrrrrrrrrr sound to get me through – vocalisation was something I read about in Juju Sundin’s Birth Skills book), CalmBirth educated me and my husband on how natural birth is and how it can be done without interventions. CalmBirth opened my eyes to how birth should be and assisted me in having clarity in my mind about the birth I wanted – no pain relief unless necessary, calm, loving enviroment, trusting my body. I am so glad I was able to achieve that with the birth of Zara, only having a local anaesthetic for an episiotomy. I rocked the rest myself.
I’m very proud of myself, my husband and our gorgeous daughter Zara.
