I work in Riverside, a small town located in the North of Tasmania. I have been a Calmbirth Educator since 2014 and a Doula for since 2008. My passion around all things birth arose from my own positive birth and pregnancy experiences with my three children, who are now all adults. My classes are taught from my home where I also enjoy welcoming back the mums & bubs for my monthly morning teas.
I became a Calmbirth Educator because supporting women as a doula was not enough for me. I wanted to reach a wider group of people and I wanted to teach more couples about how to be prepared for childbirth. I knew from my own personal experience that having an understanding of what was going to be happening in my body helped eliminate any fears I had around childbirth. I was fortunate enough to have an amazing midwife that spent time with me every month explaining and teaching me the things I needed to know to prepare me for birth. I had people beside me that understood what was going on and they could support, encourage and believe in me through the process. Calmbirth teaches this, it gives the women & her partner the knowledge they need to feel calm during the preparation time and the tools for when the time comes.
Fun facts from Cherie:
What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator is seeing the confidence in the couples grow and change so much from the start of class one compared to the end of class four.
If I had to describe my own birth experiences in 4 words, Hard work, calm, & supported.
The three essential things you need to take with you into labour are good support, confidence, and tools to be able to relax.
My most memorable moment as a Calmbirth Educator ? I don’t actually have one that stands out, but I absolutely love receiving birth stories.
