Gia Mae

Hi Cherie! I thought I’d ’formally’ introduce our darling girl Gia Mae Kohunui. Born Saturday 2/11/24, weighing a sweet 3.1kg at exactly 42 weeks.
After having my waters broken my contractions started on their own, but after each sensation her heart rate was dropping dangerously low and we weren’t sure why. As this continued it seemed natural labour was too dangerous – at this point the safest way seemed to be an emergency c section. And found out that her cheeky cord was wrapped tightly around her neck twice! And after a big cry all the colour came back into her. A little miracle.
I feel like no matter the amount of extra things we did this pregnancy, my body was protecting her by not going into labour naturally because she just wouldn’t have coped (active labour would have caused the cord to compress even tighter around her little neck). So it was all meant to be and we have a beautiful healthy baby girl.
I wanted to message you, because even though a C-section wasn’t our ideal birth plan, we were still so informed, calm and asked/requested all of the right things to ensure we were still very much getting what we wanted. We were able to have immediate skin to skin and even a breast crawl!
I had all the information I needed before we went in and I am so grateful for you and Calmbirth for allowing me that ‘control’. We are so grateful, thank you.
I hope you continue teaching Calmbirth forever!!!
We hope to see you sometime soon!
Bec and Warren Kohunui xx
