My Birth Story:

Having Cherie as my doula second time around was an easy choice.  Cherie had been my doula with my first born and, whilst she had really equipped me well for doing a birth on my own, because I had a new obstetrician this time I felt I’d like to use her again.  This decision would prove invaluable.  My first labour had been 6 hours so I was geared up for a quick labour second time around.  This was not to be the case.  It took 24 hours to get my second son into the world and it was not easy going.  Cherie was there for most of that time, providing essential oils, massages, heat packs, music – whatever I had requested and more.  I did not expect to be in labour for so long and saw a number of rotations of hospital staff – it was so lovely to have Cherie (and hubby) as my constant throughout this time.  It was also a very busy time at the hospital, with all labour rooms and hospital staff run off their feet and as amazing as these people were, it was nice not to have to rely on them to assist me.  At any time I required, Cherie was on hand with water, essential oils, a massage, face cloth, advice about moving around or help getting into the shower.  Anything I needed, Cherie organised and I could have my husband by my side at all times and not running around doing these things himself or trying to find hospital staff.  Cherie encouraged me to stick to my birth plan but when other options needed exploring, she was supportive in this also.  This birth would have been very difficult without Cherie – absolutely. I also loved the notes she took during this time, as we have a really special record of what took place during this whole time. Cherie is worth every penny and more!
